Policies
COVID-19 Policy
Our teachers are masked, vaccinated, and boosted, and all students over the age of 2 wear masks. We take daily temperature checks at the door, and teach our students appropriate hygiene to keep them safe and healthy.
We ask that any student exhibiting symptoms (coughing, runny nose, shortness of breath, etc.) stay home until they are well and can produce a negative COVID test. Moreover, we kindly request that students who travel provide a negative COVID test before returning to school, and that families respect state and CDC guidelines at home as well as at school.
Thanks to our conscientious teachers and families, we have been able to remain open without closures since the early days of the pandemic.
Wellness Policy
If your child is sick, please keep them home! If a child arrives at school sick, you will be asked to pick them up and keep them home for at least 24 hours. Please have a back-up plan for when your child is ill.
How do we define “sick”? A heavy runny nose, excessive coughing, any vomiting, any diarrhea, any fever, or if the child just does not feel good and their behavior is affected - these are all signs that your child needs to rest, and we ask that you keep them home out of respect for them and the rest of our community. Please note: there will be times that your doctor will clear your child for school; however, we reserve the right to have final say on when a child may return.
Our wellness policy is in place to keep EVERYONE healthy and happy, and to make sure that the class continues to run smoothly for the sake of all students and their families. It is unfair for the other children to have their learning disrupted when the teacher has to spend excessive amounts of time caring for a sick child, just as it is unfair for a sick child to be made to perform in class all day if they are not well. We understand that parents need to work, and so we highly recommend having a backup plan for times when your child is unable to attend school. Thank you for your support of our shared goal to keep our students and staff healthy, safe, learning, and having fun.
Discipline Policy
Here at Redwood Heights, we do use Time Outs to give students time to sit and think about the choices they are making, and how to make better ones. Students who are not listening to the point of disrupting others’ learning, will be asked to sit in a Time Out to help them calm their bodies and focus on being respectful. The length in which a student will be in Time Out is 1 min per the age of child.
We have a zero tolerance policy for misbehaving or disobedient children. To us, this means excessive hitting, biting, throwing, scratching, spitting, or bad language. If your child does not respond to positive redirection or Time Outs, you will be notified with a written “behavior warning” notice to help us correct the behavior. There will only be a maximum of 3 written notices. If behavior continues after the 3rd written behavior warning notice, the child will be unenrolled without a refund. So: please talk with your children every day about the importance of respectful behavior.
If, for any reason, your child damages or destroys school property beyond normal wear and tear, you will be billed for damages.
Supplies
Redwood Heights provides all preschools supplies except diapers, and we ask that parents bring a pack of wipes, a box of tissues, and one roll of paper towels twice a month. Any donations of school supplies are always welcome.
Bumps and Bruises at School
We strive to keep the children safe at all times; however, there will be “ouchies” that inevitably happen. You will be notified by phone for any head or facial injuries, but we’ll wait until the end of the day to notify you of any minor falls, bumps, and boo boos.
